As we continued up the steep rocky slopes towards Stob Coire Sgriodain itself it was a bit of a ‘thigh burner’ and a bit reminiscent of the infamous route straight up the front of … So we arrived at the car park at the end of the public road (a sign saying the road onwards is private) and set of on our walk at 0910. One is to start from Corrour Station and ascend via the Garbh-bheinn ridge. Good sized group, all fit and kept a good pace, we could have been round in five hours but preferred to chill, chat and soak up the views. Most people would opt to bag Stob Coire Sgriodain and Chno Dearg from Fersit in one outing and Beinn na Lap for another. There are ridges NE, branching to Meall Chaorach (815m) and Meall Dhearcaig, and another broader ridge runs NNW towards Fersit, all have easy slopes and are potentially boggy. We took our snaps of the top and moved on to the next one as we knew the snow and wind had slowed us down a lot and we wanted to be walking off the ridge before darkness. These three Munro peaks are very different, Beinn na Lap is a long whale-back, Stob Coire Sgriodain is rugged with some crags and steep drops to Loch Treig, whereas Chno Dearg is domed in appearance. The Munros of Chno Dearg and Stob Coire Sgriodain are more often ascended from Fersaid/Fersit to the north, but the approach from Corrour is much more As we got to the first summit we could only see a few feet in front of us. The views were non existent until I had descended from Chno Dearg to the broad bealach that separates it from the much more interesting ridge towards Stob Coire Sgriodain. The weather had given us some good views so far, but that was about to change. The summits were slowly revealing themselves with the quartzite white cairn of its South Top providing a good view of the summit that was just capped by the clouds. Chno Dearg from the nose of Sron na Garbh-bheinne. Stalkers paths head across the flanks from near Strathossian House - but any approach to here makes it very long. Is it getting any nearer ??? east with Chno Dearg. Chno Dearg is a high dome-shaped mountain dominating the views southwards when driving along Glen Spean.
